The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA), founded in 1924, unites the real estate profession nationwide through integrity, collaboration, and advocacy. With a legacy of establishing a code of ethics, advancing education, and driving uniform legislation, REIA remains the trusted national voice and standard-bearer for professionalism in Australian real estate.

REIA President


Jacob is a fully licensed estate agent, the former CEO of Ray White CRE and interim-CEO of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria, a two-term President and current director of the REIV, a Director of the Real Estate Institute of Australia, a Director of the Melbourne Opera Charitable Foundation, and a Victorian Government Housing Advisory Board member. He is a former Director of View Media Group, past Chairman of the REIV Melbourne Division, and a former member of the REIV Young Agents’ Chapter. He was also a finalist in realestate.com.au’s Real Innovation Prize. 

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, an MBA from Monash University, and a master’s in international relations from Harvard University, where he graduated on the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence. He is a PhD candidate at the Australian National University’s National Security College, researching the conceptual history of the term “cyberattack.” Jacob also holds a Graduate Certificate in International Security and the Public Leadership Credential from Harvard Kennedy School, alongside executive certificates from Harvard Business School in Authentic Leadership, Negotiation Mastery, Management Essentials, Sustainable Business Strategy and Leadership Principles, earning a Certificate of Specialisation in Leadership and Management.

Cain Cooke

South Australia


Cain is the Executive Chair of the Real Estate Institute of Australia South Australia.

Cain has held a range of roles in key South Australian and national brands including Discovery Parks, Specsavers, Cibo Espresso, Boost Juice & Century 21 Australia.

Cain was named in South Australia’s inaugural InDaily 40 Under 40 Business Leaders.

Carol Need

Northern Territory


Carol Need, Need Real Estate, has over 20 years’ experience in the NT Market, specializing in Property Management, Sales, and Relocation Services.

Carol is Vice President of the Real Estate Institute of the Northern Territory and President of the Women’s Network NT.

Carol has a Diploma in Property and is a Cert 4 trainer and Assessor. Since 1999, Carol has been a key trainer at the Real Estate Institute NT since 1999.

Hannah Gill

Hannah has over 18 years experience in the industry, working in and leading teams including roles in property management, business development and management. 

Passionate about driving positive change in the industry, Hannah’s career path reflects her ability to develop and deliver value to businesses through growth, innovation and cultural evolution, consulting to businesses across Australia on her Culture Playbook. 

Hannah is President of the Real Estate Institute of the ACT, has been recognised as ACT Telstra Business Woman of the Year (Medium and Large business) 2020, and is an AICD graduate.

Michael Walsh

Tasmania


With over 45 years of real estate experience under his belt Michael is a highly regarded sales consultant, auctioneer and licensed manager at Roberts Real Estate Tasmania.

His journey within the industry includes 12 plus years as a board member of the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania and is proudly the Immediate Past President of the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania.

Sam Hatzistamatis

Victoria


A licensed real estate agent holding a Bachelor of Behavioural Science, Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.

Head of Property Management at Besser + Co since Sept 2023 and previously held the role of Training Manager for Little Real Estate and as Property Management Operations Manager for Harcourts Victoria.

As a specialist in property management, he has held senior roles with a number of Victorian real estate groups. He also has significant experience in corporate marketing in the automotive, banking and energy sectors.

In addition, Sam is on working groups with VCAT, Tenants Victoria and other industry bodies.

Appointed by the Board to fill a casual vacancy from 8 August 2022 to 30 September 2023 and elected as a Director from October 2023.

Sam was awarded an Associate of the Real Estate Institute of Australia (AREI) in 2024.

Suzanne Brown

Western Australia


Suzanne is the Director of Rentwest Solutions, a leading property management firm in Perth, Western Australia and currently the President of the Real Estate Institute of WA.

With a career in real estate spanning 35 years, Suzanne has extensive expertise and leadership in property management, client relationships and is committed in continuing to shape the future of real estate in Western Australia.

Suzanne has an MBA from Edith Cowan University.

Thomas McGlynn

New South Wales


Thomas McGlynn is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sydney-based property group BresicWhitney and President of the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW). With over two decades of experience in sales, auctioneering, and strategic leadership, Thomas is recognised as one of Australia’s leading real estate coaches, thought leaders, and mentors.

Thomas has served on the REINSW Board of Directors for four years, and his presidency highlights his role as a prominent advocate and leader in the industry. His focus as President is on enhancing and future-proofing the long-term value that the Institute provides for its members and stakeholders. This includes driving meaningful outcomes for real estate professionals across New South Wales and their communities.

In addition to his executive responsibilities, Thomas is BresicWhitney’s Chief Auctioneer, conducting the majority of the group’s auctions. His expertise in leadership and auctioneering positions him as a trusted voice in the industry, inspiring and mentoring the next generation of real estate professionals.
